Be Your Own Valentine by Sue Jackel

Be Your Own Valentine

As Valentine’s Day 2018 approaches, it takes on special significance for the members of the LGBTQIA communities, as it will be the first time that same sex partners can pop that special question to their beloved.

It is also a time that reminds many of their desire to have that special bond that only a lover can give. In short, it can be a time of loneliness and heartache.

As I was mediating on this, I asked my guides for some inspiration and it came from the Osho Zen Tarot Deck – or as I call them – the shifty cards!

The first card that revealed itself was Aloneness, which said to me that when we are on our own, we have a choice to enjoy the solitude and the gifts of reflection and insight that we can receive or concentrate on being lonely. We can celebrate our deeply held wisdom and our ability to live our life in power and integrity or we can become isolated and bitter.

The card reminded me that aloneness is the full presence of ourself and as we cultivate that gift, we can fill ourselves and the universe with joy.

The second card was The Lovers – very appropriate! Whilst this was obvious, the underlying message was not so out there. Valentine’s Day is all about Eros and romance and while this is a good start – you do need to be physically attracted to your partner – this aspect rarely lasts and it is only when this transcends to a love that accepts and celebrates both our own our lovers glorious individuality. This transforms into the freedom to be ourselves in our relationship without expectation of neediness.

The final card was Friendliness. This card speaks clearly about the essence of true friendship with a deep and genuine connection based on freedom and unconditional love. There is no urgency or neediness but a loving quality born out of friendship, compassion and respect.

Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we can’t manage to find a relationship or keep it together or we keep repeating the same mistakes.

This can be because we are still carrying energetic connections to past lovers and partners or we are repeating patterns that we learned as a child or we are responding to hurts that we have experienced along the way.

I hope that each of you has a wonderful Valentines Day and that you are all blessed with your own joyful presence, a love that is free and expansive and friendships that have deep compassion and respect.
